Calipso had her maiden voyage on 8-15 Aug 2019 with guests from the US, Russia, Italy, Switzerland, the UK and Holland. Paulo and Edwin were the dive guides. Captain Paul Macias was at the helm.
Water was pretty cool everywhere, ranging from 14-20 C / 57-68 F and visibility was not great, but after 19 whale shark sightings in 6 dives at Darwin plus all the Hammerheads and Galapagos sharks, everyone was happy. Anytime you can see 3 huge female whale sharks at the same time is a good dive.
One guest said a dive at Darwin was the best diving of his entire life. The next morning, another dive at Darwin topped the previous day’s best ever dive. At Cabo Douglas, there were more marine iguanas feeding in the shallows than you could count. One marine iguana chomped away beside a large octopus who never moved. The water was cold at 14C, but crystal clear. Massive turtles rested above the feeding areas. Flightless cormorants zoomed through the water.
You can find some underwater photos on Instagram at @PauloDiverGPS. Hopefully, divers onboard will soon share their images with us, too, but in the meantime, here are some images of Calipso to replace the renderings.
